| About Tantalus...... |

| Our aim is to provide a wide range of sailing experiences, whatever your skill level. We can provide sailing training, both theory and practical to RYA levels. Also, we can provide the cruising experience, even if you have never sailed before. Whatever your previous experience, we can help you extend your skills and have lots of fun at the same time! You can take charge of the yacht and steer ( under supervision ) if you wish.
Cruising We sail from Watergate Marina on Clear Lake Shores ( we are now in Guatemala ). This is about 30 miles south of Houston in Texas. Clear Lake is just off Galveston Bay, a large inland sheltered body of water about 30 miles long and 15 miles wide. This is an ideal area for learners. The weather ranges from 60'F in winter to 100'F in summer. We usually charter between November to June ( outside the hurricane season of June to the end of October ).
For those more interested in palm trees and spectacular beaches, we sail to Mexico and Cuba. Isla Mujeres in Mexico is stunningly beautiful. You can swim in warm clear water and see thousands of brightly coloured fish. We have snorkel gear which is very easy to use by anybody of any age. The sailing here is more of the island hopping variety, with picnics on the beach being very popular!
For those wishing something a bit more exciting, the Gulf of Mexico crossing provides a fine variety of sailing experiences. The wind ranges from no wind to 40+ knots, so this is not for the faint hearted! To do this crossing you should have some previous offshore sailing experience. The crossing meets all the requirements for the RYA YachMaster Ocean Practical. |
